The Estate Swing Solar Series - How Does it Work? The solar panel absorbs solar energy and charges the 12 volt battery (not included). The gate opener then runs off this charged battery. Your solar panel can be installed up to 250 feet away from the control box (and charge controller). If you are using the A/C charging option, instead of solar, your transformer can be up to 1000' away from the gate opener control box. For both of the above options the battery is maintained directly by either the solar panel or the transformer.

Easy Access Adjustable Magnetic Limit Switches: There are many pluses to the limit switches on this unit. They are easy to adjust and access. They are on the bottom of the exterior of the arm, simply slide them to the location needed and tighten down a screw. Secondly, both the open and closed point is adjustable; this gives you more flexibility of stopping points after the brackets are bolted into place. Lastly they are magnetic so there are no components to wear out or break from contact.
Adjustable Run Time/Soft Stop: One of the parameters you can designate for this opener is a run time. The advantage of this is, again, it is not a learned procedure, but something you input manually as an adjustment for your soft stop. The purpose is to give an option for where you want soft stop to begin. If you make the run time the same as the actual run time from limit to limit it will slow down half way; as you extend the run time past that time the soft stop will become shorter and give you a faster opening time. The board makes it easy to set, it has a counter on it telling you how many seconds it takes to go from open to close - then you simply put that number or a number of your choosing to delay the slow down.
Easy to Read Digital Display Notifications: The display will indicate when it is sending poser to the electric lock, when it is open, when it is in auto-reclose pause countdown, when it is closing and visually counting the run time. All this info makes it easy for the Do-It-Yourselfer to understand their gate opener clearer and look like a professional installer.
Closed Position Lock Release: The Estate Swing classic is the ONLY gate opener on the market to release your solenoid gate lock for a second time after the closed limit is reached. And with the advent of soft stop this has become even more of an issue. "The Estate Swing Solar series gate opener is a great combination of the simplistic board of the Estate Swing Classic which has been so popular and the solar maintenance methods of the top solar gate openers. There have been many attempts at dual purpose gate openers, meaning low voltage trickle charge and solar combined into one gate opener unit. However we have found the gate openers that work best are the ones that are built for solar and the battery is transformer charged separate from the system if desired. I will explain:
The way the best solar gate openers work, including the Estate Swing Solar series, is that the gate opener board and motor run off of a battery only. All the charging is done directly to the battery. This is good because you can increase the size of your battery, you can increase the size of your solar panel, you can increase the size of the charge controller for faster charging or higher wattage solar panels; all leading to a more reliable gate opener system tailor made to your circumstances. Other gate opener systems have the solar panel feed the power it produces into the gate opener control board and the control board has a charge control built into it. The problem having the charge control built into the gate opener control board is it is a performance limiting factor. In order to increase battery size or solar panel size / wattage you have to match the right charge controller. If the charge controller that is built into the gate opener control board cannot handle the desired charging the system will not be capable of keeping up with your needs. For lesser used gate opener systems or systems in optimal sunlight this is ok, but if you have other plans like many access control devices, less than optimal solar conditions, etc. having the flexibility of external charging is a huge plus.
The other advantage of not running charging power through the gate opener control board is lightening protection. Having the low voltage lines from a transformer or solar panel leading directly to a battery instead of the gate opener control board creates a buffer that helps to protect against minor surges. We still recommend using lightning protection but if you choose not to, which we have seen many times over the years, your chances of having a surge mishap is decreased through this type of gate operator charging system.
Having a system that is this DIY ready as well as solar ready has been something we have been after for a while. The DIY aspect of this gate opener is the other component that I truly value. It has adjustable brackets making the mounting easy (we have a video showing how to do this by the way). There is no programming, just a few parameters to set. Other gate openers have sequences to follow to get the gate opener to "learn" how to operate for your particular gate. The main problem with having programming is no matter how easy you make the procedure there is still a procedure and you are not familiar with it. This is a carryover from the times when all gate openers were installed by professionals. Professionals learn the procedure after a few times and it is no big deal; but why would a DIYer want to learn something they are never going to use again. An exciting time in the world of gate openers. GTO/PRO has rereleased their PRO-SW3000XL series of gate openers as the PRO-SW3000XLS series. The XLS series has a number of improvements over its predecessor including a 10% increase in the operating speed. The XLS series also contains a new rev-counter board with reed switch technology, which helps the gate opener determine its position. In addition, the XLS series includes an improved front mount and scraper seal design. Unfortunately, the new XLS series control boards and arms are not cross compatible with the XL series. So, if you purchase an XLS arm for your XL control board, they will not work together.
The PRO SW3000XLS Single GTO Gate Opener can be used in most residential applications including automating gates made of farm tubing, steel, aluminum, wood, and chain link, along with many other gate types. This opener can be set on the left or right and is used in the standard pull-to-open operation. By using the push-to-open bracket accessory the PRO SW3000XLS can be used to push the gate open away from the property with the arms still mounted on the inside. Soft Start/Soft Stop - Soft start/soft stop is a feature in which the control board, during the set up process, learns where your opening and closing points are for the swing of the gate. Then during normal operation the gate operator automatically slows the motion of the gate to smoothly meet with the gates destination point. This feature can also be turned off.
Closing Timer - Set your gate to close between 0 and 100 seconds after reaching the full open position or turn this option off to leave it open until an entry device activates closing motion.
Learn Mode - With the GTO/PRO 3000XLS the learning process, the end points are determined by the user via remote. A simple press of the transmitter tells the opener where to stop and when the opener is set to the desired stop points, save the settings on the board.

Why: The Mighty Mule comes with a 318 MHz receiver and remote. 318 MHz has heavy interference and a range of 50 feet or many times less.
433 is a much stronger frequency and averages a 300 foot range and many time longer. The difference is being able to press your remote button and
continue to drive towards your gate vs. pressing your remote while you have already stopped next to your gate. Also with 433 MHz you may be able
to reach your gate to active it from your house if you are within 300 feet of your gate.
FAQ on enhancement: I still have old remotes I would like to use with the Mighty Mule I am buying but I like the idea of having a few longer range remotes, can I
use both?
Yes, you will still have a 318 MHz from the gate opener purchase. You can have both the new and the old receiver wired into the board.
Does this apply to the other mighty mule accessories too like the F3100 MBC wireless intercom?
Yes, any 318 wireless will be able to work, you will simply have a second frequency available to use for more reliability for the 433 remotes
purchased.
Is it easy to wire in? Where can I find instructions and wire to do this?
It is very easy and here are the instructions on how to do so:
Use one pair of 2 conductor wire (18 - 22 gauge) from the receiver to the control board. Connect left terminal SW1 on the receiver to
terminal CYCLE on the gate opener, connect the right terminal SW1 on the receiver to terminal COMMON on the gate opener.
Use a second pair of two conductor wire from the receiver to the battery. Connect the terminal V+ on the receiver to the positive spade on
the battery, connect the terminal GND on the receiver to the negative spade of the battery.
We sell wire for this or it can be found at any home improvement store.
What other cool features am I getting because of buying this?
Glad you asked, one of our favorite features is the fact that the 433 receiver has two channels and the remotes have multiple buttons. What this
means is you can have one button open your gate and another unlock a pedestrian gate. Or buy a second receiver and have better range for your
garage door too all controlled by one remote.
Or you could program one set of remotes to channel 1 that is directly wired into the mighty
mule and another set of remotes that are programmed to channel 2 which you have wired into a timer (sold separately). You could then have one group of remotes work day and
night and another group of remotes only access the property during business hours.
Add: A Gate Crafters Automatic Gate Lock
Why: The Gate Crafters automatic gate lock is on par as the most reasonably priced gate lock on the market and it shares the same feature
as the revolutionary Estate Swing Low Impact gate lock. The lock only
requires 1 pound of force to latch the gate closed. This is a huge change from the GTO gate lock that requires nearly 10 pounds of force. With
the advent of soft stop gate openers, which this one is, the standard design of gate lock is not consistently latching to a locked position
because of lack of slamming. The Estate Swing Low Impact lock solved this issue and the Gate Crafters gate lock is designed the same as that lock,
it just comes in zinc coated silver instead of powder coated black like the Estate Swing lock.
In general a gate lock is a great accessory to add to your driveway gate opener system. The gate opener is designed to be a device to open and
close your gate. However against forced entry the gate opener is no match. If an individual intentionally and forcefully pushed on the end of the
gate they could very easily overtake and damage the gate opener motor. This is because of the leverage the individual would have on the operator
by pushing at the end of the gate. Also high winds could have the same effect. A gate lock physically locks the gate in the closed position with
1300 lbs. of resistance. It is wired to the gate opener to automatically release when the gate opener begins to open. It only requires power when
releasing so it is solar compatible and it has a key release in case of electrical failure.

Can I extend that 10' of wire?
Yes, you can have the solar panel located up to 200' away. We encourage you to move the panel to an optimal location rather than trying to make
the 10' location work. You want a location that the solar panel can face south and receive full sun all day without shadows.
Is it easy to wire in? Where can I find instructions to do this?
It is very easy and here are the instructions on how to do so:
Connect the positive wire of the solar panel to terminal SOLAR of the gate opener control board.
Connect the negative wire of the solar panel to terminal SOLAR of the gate opener control board.

FAQ on enhancement: Doesn't this gate opener have built in safety features?
Yes, when it hits a car it will reverse. However it has to hit a car first and depending on the speed of the car, the gate may rip the gate right
off its hinges. At the very least you are looking at a probable scratch on your car.
Where do I put these?
Most people place them so the safety beam is going across the driveway right past the closed position of the gate. In this case they can
typically use the gate posts to mount the photo eyes on. Some people choose to use two sets of photo eyes however. One right past the closed
position of the gate and another set right past the open position of the gate. This would create a safety zone - a car should break the beam when
in the path of the gate from either direction. If doing this we suggest purchasing mounting posts for the second set of the photo eyes.
Is it easy to wire in? Where can I find instructions to do this?
It is very easy and here are the instructions on how to do so:
Terminal OUT of photo eye to SFTY terminal of gate opener
Terminal COM of photo eye COMMON Terminal of gate opener
Terminal + of photo eye to Battery spade positive (+) of gate opener’s battery
Terminal - of photo eye to Battery spade negative (-) of gate opener’s battery
Set jumper in photo eye to NO
Wire needed for installation: Two pairs of 2 conductor wire (18 - 22 gauge) to go from the primary photo eye to the gate opener and battery. One pair of 2 conductor wire to go under the driveway to the secondary eye.
What other cool features am I getting because of buying this?
Another use for this device is as an opening device. If you would like a low cost version of an automatic exit device this can be placed on posts further down the driveway and wired so when a car breaks the beam the gate is triggered to open. Here is how to wire it for this:
Terminal OUT of photo eye to EXIT terminal of gate opener
Terminal COM of photo eye COMMON Terminal of gate opener
Terminal + of photo eye to Battery spade positive (+) of gate opener’s battery
Terminal - of photo eye to Battery spade negative (-) of gate opener’s battery
Set jumper in photo eye to NO
One thing to note, this is not a good solution for families with children or dogs that may break the beam, open the gate, and walk out.
Add: An Estate Swing party mode button
Why: This button will override the automatic reclose on the gate for days you want to keep the gate open. More importantly hold the gate open without you having to access the control board.

Many people locate it down at the gate on the bottom of the control box. Or you can run 2 conductor wire to a secure location.

Connect one wire of the button to SFTY terminal of gate opener
Connect other wire of the button to COMMON terminal of gate opener
In the above method you would trigger your gate with an opening device. When the gate is fully open press the party mode button and the gate will stay open until the party mode button is pressed again. Then the gate will go closed through the auto re-close feature.
Alt method - for the button mounted in secure location
Connect one wire of the button to EXIT terminal of gate opener
Connect other wire of the button to COMMON terminal of gate opener
In the above method you would trigger your gate by pressing the party mode button and the gate will go open and stay open until the party mode button is pressed again. Then the gate will go closed through the auto re-close feature.
