Photo beams are generally used in two places on swing gates: right past where the gate(s) are closed and right past the end of the swing of the gate(s). On slide gates: right next to the gate. The beams are designed to be used much like on your garage door opener – if something breaks the beam while the gate opener is moving it will stop it from moving any further and causing damage.
